not such good results at the ophthalmologist today , T's sight in one eye has gotten worse he can see from that eye 6/30 which means what we can see at 30 meters he can only see at 6 meters the other eye is 6/12. He will also need surgery to correct his lazy eye but they will only let the world class expert do it so its going to take ages to get it done, this is due to the fact that the layers on his cornea are rather thin from having laser eye surgery three times as a bubby. This reading does however qualify us for the better start program which will mean we get funding for occupational therapy etc that I'm currently paying for myself but still upsetting esp seeing as they have massively deteriorated six months ago they were 6/19 in the worst eye, they are unsure of why there has been such a big change.

We have been trying to get into an ECDP that runs a vision specific program it looks like we wont qualify as he has to be 6/18 in the better eye (from my understanding ) so that is really disappointing and wrong, I mean if you have one eye that is 6/30 thats going to massively affect you, and his peripheral vision is massively impacted because of the laser , I have asked if the head optom will write a letter just saying that despite our reading that he feels t would benefit from the vision specific program and i'm hoping they will let us though on that basis :/ regardless we still qualify for ECDP its just going to be a matter of if its vision related one or not, I feel it would really benefit him.

I want to eliminate CP as a possible cause of Tristan's legs... his feet still turn inwards, when he runs his legs go in circles, he is always falling over either nothing or his own feet, he cannot sit properly (comfortably anyway, it looks so awkward for him) and he is complaining more and more of sore legs (wakes up screaming in the middle of the night and stuff :( )
So where to from here? We are seeing a podiatrist next week and he's on the wait list for pysio here... should I get him back to the paed?

I need opinions (please no criticism I dont' think i can mentally take that!)

I live with my dp and his son who both have aspbergers , SS is 7 and T is 4

SS is very very bossy with T esp when playing, T has to play a certain way and he gets angry if he doesn't do it hte way he wants him to.

DP says he had a similar issue when SS first started school with a particular kid being bossy towards SS but the special ed teacher had said that may just be the way that they play (as in SS and the other child) and DP thinks we should just let it be (within reason of course)

but it drives me nuts, its not allowing T to create his own play, he has enough rules in life he shouldn't have to have rules about exactly how to play as well.

What are your thoughts?

Hi there everyone

My name is Tarryn and our gorgeous baby girl Aeriella Rose was born on 13 Jan 2012 - 35 weeks at 2.2kgs.

I slipped and fell when pregnant at 30 weeks and ended up in hospital on bed rest - couldnt walk eventually. At the same time my blood work went crazy (I have an autoimmune disease) and in order to stabilise me they had to deliver Aeriella Rose.

She was delivered by c-section and spent about 5/6 days in the incubator on oxygen, drips, etc etc and then in special care (SCN) for 2 weeks on a feeding tube. She is our joy and delight and doing well except for we just found out her neck, shoulder & lower back being very out which a chiro is treating.

Would love to connect with other premmie mums who had babes a similar type and just other premmie mums in general!

Look forward to being a part of this and learning a lot!

The snot started on Sunday. Kept going through Monday, then the cough & wheeze started and got worse Monday night. Work of breathing increased somewhat, but was sporadic and not consistent enough for us to head to hospital.

Took DD to the GP yesterday (Tuesday), moreso to ask questions about asthma as I've not really heard her wheeze like this before and they were very thorough. Said he was considering sending us to ED as her resp rate was still elevated but he gave her a dose of prednisilone right there in his rooms and put a ventolin neb on to see how she responded. No real change to her lungs but one hyped little lady after the steriods! We went back at 7pm last night for him to review her, GP still being cautious. Intuitively I knew she was no worse, if anything a little better and he agreed that if we presented at ED we'd just end up being sent home.

Went back in this morning after her cough worsened overnight, very chunky and rattly and coughing to the point of gagging - which to me says she's starting to move the muck, not very nice for DD though. Still wheezy all through the lungs, so its not just upper respiratory. Breathing still elevated and working a little harder than normal, but over all she's ok. Another stat dose of pred and keep managing at home.

Despite all this she is still happily eating, drinking & playing. Snoozing right now, so I'm not overly concerned. Though I am all too aware how quickly these things turn so we are laying low.

It would be hard to top our awful winter last year, I seriously hope these germs get lost!

Hi Everyone
I am curious to know the age at which your premmie bubs starting sleeping through the night. I have two premmie sons who struggled to sleep the whole night. My first son was born at 34 weeks and is now 2 ½ years old and took close to a year to sleep through the night. My second son was born at 31 weeks and is now 6 months old and shows no signs of wanting to sleep through the night. My friends of non-premmie kids seem to have their bubs sleeping through the night at really young ages such as two and three months! I was wondering is the delayed sleeping through the night s just a premmie thing or is it just the case that my kids are trying to make me insane from sleep deprivation. Any advice would be brilliant!
Thanks
Elisa

This is what Ronan says ALL the time! He won't walk into his classroom until his teacher acknowledges him & comes over. He won't line up with the class unless his teacher is holding his hand. If i try to gently nudge him to unpack his bag before the teacher has come over to him he says "i'm scaredy". If he is in a new situation he hides and says the same thing but we try to keep everything the same. It seems like every situation even though it's the same routine everyday it keeps happening.

I guess i was just wondering if anyone else has this, being scared of everything AND being super clingy? He does this constantly. What's more heartbreaking is everytime there is something happening at school he stands to the side.

Last week the preps sang a song at assembly. They all wore red and he had rehearsed it many times. On the day he just stood to the side with the teachers and held no expression. I have attached a picture so you can see. Then today i was up at the school and the class were having a picture. He was sitting at the front of the class to the side by himself. Everyday i find it more heartbreaking and he seems so alone. I know that the teachers do everything they can to help & involve him but he doesn't seem responsive.

I am finding that the older he gets the worse he is getting. I'd love any suggestions? I think we need another appointment with the psychiatrist.

Hi everyone, my name is Karen and I quite recently gave birth to a premature baby girl. I developed an infection of the placenta and my membranes ruptured at 22 weeks. We were able to hold of birth for a few weeks but Piper was delivered by c-section on 18 April at 25+2 weeks weighing 620g. She has been doing ok but yesterday we were told she has CLD and will probably need oxygen for the first 6 months after she comes home. I'd love to hear about other parents experience with CLD and how you have managed it. I'm worried because we also have a 2 year old, born full term, and like many 2 year old boys, he's a bit of a germ magnet!

Ayden has a chest infection and is on antibiotic which surprised me as he didnt seem too sick with a bit of a cold. Anyway he doesn't cough when up and around but starts to cough badly when laid down for a nap. What can I do to help him. I read somewhere here not to give him cough mixture as he needs to cough the gunk up. What else can I do to make him comfortable and sleep better?
